Arts Day at Queen’s Park

MossopThe Factory was one of several Hamilton Groups to take part in Arts Day at Queen’s Park. The event, organized by the Ontario Arts Council and hosted by Jennifer Mossop, Hamilton MPP and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Culture, allowed artists from across Ontario to meet with provincial politicians and make the case for increased Arts funding.

In her speech the Minister of Culture Caroline Di Cocco spoke of the real and lasting economic benefits that culture and the arts deliver to the provincial economy, and explained how the funds distributed by the OAC actually generate more revenue from taxes than is spent.

The focus now is to have artists and their supporters to meet with MPPs, write letters, and encourage a significant increase in OAC funding in the next provicial budget.

Arthur Remembered

Martin LavutNovember’s Factory works screening included a visit by filmmaker Martin Lavut. An appreciative crowd re-discovered the works of Arthur Lipsett, then were treated to the first Hamilton screening of “Remembering Arthur,” Lavut’s biography of the legendary Canadian filmmaker. The evening ended with a lengthy and far ranging Question and Answer session.

December’s Factory Works screening will showcase works of Factory members. Get your submission in soon!
