Monsanto, a century-old empire, has created some of the most toxic products ever sold. According to Monsanto, their patented GM seeds and their bovine growth hormone (BGH) will increase worldwide production of agricultural, dairy and meat products to the extent that worldwide hunger and poverty will be eradicated.

In the light of its troubling past, can we really believe these noble intentions? Misleading reports, collusion with the American government, pressure tactics and attempts at corruption: the history of Monsanto is filled with disturbing episodes.

The World According to Monsanto pieces together the story of the corporation, calling on hitherto unpublished documents and first-hand accounts by scientists, civil society representatives, victims of the company’s toxic activities, lawyers, politicians, and representatives of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Environmental Protection Agency.

Marie-Monique Robin began collecting material for her documentary from the Internet over a period of three years. She travelled widely, from Latin America, to Asia, Europe and the United States, to personally interview farmers and people in influential positions. A specialist in social and political issues and winner of the Prix Albert-Londres in 1995, French jourmalist, author and filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin has made over 30 documentaries, a number of which won awards at international festivals and events.

” I learned that Monsanto is one of the most controversial corporations of modern times, because it has systematically hidden the extreme toxicity of its products. What about today? Is it telling the truth about its GMOs? Can we really believe it when it says that biotechnology is the solution to hunger and environmental contamination? To answer these questions, which concern us all, I set out on a mission across three continents, comparing what Monsanto says with the real world.”
